06.08.2024 Ritschengraben Alexander Murer ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normal Completed ✔
We met a friendly local on the way who said that, unlike the nearby Bruckgraben, canyoning in the Ritschengraben is forbidden by the national park. However, this probably only applies to commercial providers, if at all. You could ask the nearest canyoning provider. The tour itself is not very rewarding overall. The upper part is quite nice, especially alluvial fans will get their money's worth. The lower part consists of a lot of river walking and not very interesting abseiling sections - we must have overlooked slides or misplaced them. Thanks to the mountain rescue service for setting up the rope traverse - to reach it we had to climb 10m back up over scree from the rockslide. We had great difficulty pulling off our ropes several times. The relatively tight and weathered frequent screw chain links create too much friction in conjunction with our 10mm rope. Would recommend a thinner rope.

The pool by the 8-meter slide was only one meter deep, so it was better not to slide.

Nice open stream with sometimes quite strong current, but not very rewarding due to the long approach (or car chute) and long way back. Almost exclusively abseiled from trees equipped with slings and rings.

All well set up, often chain railing to rappelling points. The huge slides could all be done. The cogwheel train up is quite expensive, 20€ for the ascent as of June 2023. You then need a total of one hour (20 minutes train plus 40 minutes descent to the gorge) instead of 2 hours ascent on foot.
