Ein netter Bach, der vor allem im Frühjahr (Schneeschmelze) oder nach einer nassen Periode im Sommer begangen werden sollte. Der Bach ist sehr offen und hat einen äußerst alpinen Charakter, ist aber geologisch hoch interessant. Der Lunglgrabenbach ist vom Ennstal schon von Weitem gut zu sehen, weil er durch einen großen Abbruch durchgeht und sich das ganze Bachbett rot-ockerfarben verfärbt ist. Scheinbar wird das Wasser im Quellgebiet äußerst stark mineralisiert und so hat sich über das komplette Bachbett eine dicke Sinterschicht gebildet, die zwar sehr rutschig aussieht, aber bei unserer Begehung bombenfest gehalten hat. Wie bereits beschrieben, wird das Gestein von oben nach unten hin immer poröser und man muss wirklich auf Steinschlag Acht geben.

A nice stream that should be walked especially in spring (snowmelt) or after a wet period in summer. The stream is very open and has an extremely alpine character, but is geologically highly interesting. The Lunglgrabenbach can be easily seen from a distance from the Ennstal valley, because it passes through a large quarry and the entire streambed has turned reddish-ochre. Apparently, the water in the source area is extremely strongly mineralized and so a thick sinter layer has formed over the entire streambed, which looks very slippery, but has held bombproof during our walk. As already described, the rock becomes more and more porous from top to bottom and you really have to watch out for falling rocks.

Von Liezen kommend auf der B320 für ca. 8km in Richtung Salzburg fahren, bis man zum Ort Wörschach kommt. Ab der Abzweigung für 2km auf der Haupstraße bleiben, vorbei an der Wörschachklamm durch Wörschach durch, bis man dann rechts in Richtung „Gasthof Weitgasser“ abbiegt. (Anm. man könnte auch direkt hier von der B320 abfahren, aber für Personen ohne Navi ist der beschriebene Weg einfacher). Nach 300m kommt man zum Gasthof Weitgasser, hier findet man gute Parkplätze auf der Seite der beginnenden Forststraße, wo auch der Fürstensteig gut ersichtlich anfängt. (N47.551445/E014.139395)

Coming from Liezen drive on the B320 for about 8km in the direction of Salzburg until you reach the village of Wörschach. From the turnoff stay on the main road for 2km, past the Wörschachklamm gorge through Wörschach, until you turn right in the direction of "Gasthof Weitgasser". (Note: you could also leave the B320 directly here, but for people without a navigation system, the described route is easier). After 300m you will come to Gasthof Weitgasser, where you will find good parking spaces on the side of the beginning forest road, where the Fürstensteig also begins. (N47.551445/E014.139395)

Direkt beim Parkplatz, ca. 20m nachdem der Fürstensteig beginnt, – bergaufwärts – geht man links auf einem unmarkierten Weg ca. 5 min bergauf. Im Wald ist der Weg sogar versichert. Nach 5 min kommt man dann auf die Forststraße, der man immer entlang der Beschilderung „Aicherkarlalm“ folgt. Teilweise verlässt man die Forststraße, bzw. quert diese wieder auf dem gut beschilderten Weg zur Aicherkaralm. Bei der Alm kommt man nach ca. weiteren 40 Minuten an. An der Hütte vorbei, der Forststraße entlang für weitere 700m (ca. 10 min) und dann führt klar ersichtlich ein weiterer Forstweg links leicht bergab. Diesem Weg folgt man für ca. 150m und geht dann gerade aus weiter (nicht links dem Hauptforstweg folgen) bis man zum Lunglgrabenbach kommt.

Directly at the parking lot, about 20m after the Fürstensteig begins - uphill - you go left on an unmarked path uphill for about 5 min. In the forest, the path is even secured. After 5 min you will come to the forest road, which you always follow along the signs "Aicherkarlalm". Partially you leave the forest road, or cross it again on the well-signposted path to the Aicherkaralm. You arrive at the alp after about another 40 minutes. Past the hut, along the forest road for another 700m (about 10 min) and then clearly visible another forest road leads left slightly downhill. Follow this path for about 150m and then continue straight on (do not follow the main forest road on the left) until you reach the Lunglgrabenbach stream.

Zuerst sieht der Bach nach einem Waldgraben aus. Nach ca. 250m und einer flacheren Abseilpassage (Einzelhaken bei einem größeren Fels or.li.) kommt man jedoch aus dem Wald raus zum Abbruch, der in die geologisch hochinteressante Kaskade mit mehreren Abseilern führt. Fast sämtliche Stände sind gut abgesicherte Kettenstände. Das Gestein wird nach unten hin zunehmend brüchiger und praktisch überall hat man Steinschlaggefahr. Nach der ersten 45m-Abseilpassage kommt man zu einer Stelle, die landschaftlich sehr schön ist. Hier befindet sich eine abschüssige Rampe zum nächsten Stand der sich or. li. befindet. Hier findet man nirgends einen Stand und bei der Rampe sollte man nicht ins Rutschen kommen, da darunter der nächste Abbruch kommt. Man hat hier entweder die Möglichkeit sich über eine Körpersicherung abzusichern oder man versucht direkt beim Ankunftspunkt des 45m-Wasserfalls or.li. rauszuqueren und zum Baum zu kommen, wo man ein Seil reinhängen kann. Beim 2. 45m- Abseiler denkt man zuerst, da hat es jemand sehr gut gemeint mit dem Kettenstand. Eine ca. 2m-lange Kette mit 4 Expressankern steht dort als Abseilstelle bereit. Bei näherer Inspektion des Gesteins versteht man aber, warum 4 Expressanker benötigt worden sind. Das komplette Gestein ist äußerst porös und ein Anker ist sogar schon komplett ausgebrochen. Hier empfiehlt es sich zuerst zu prüfen, ob man den Ankern vertraut. Wir haben zumindest das Seil von der oberen Abseilstelle hier fixiert, sodass wenn es bei den ersten zum Ausbruch der Anker kommt zumindest über das Abseilseil zum oberen Stand ein Backup besteht. Nach einer weiteren kleinen Gehstrecke kommt man auch schon zum letzten Abseiler (links), der auch rechts umgangen werden kann über einen kleinen Steig aus Baustahltritten. Danach quert man or. links raus zur Forststraße.

At first the stream looks like a forest canyon. However, after about 250m and a flatter rappel (single hook on a larger rock or.left), you come out of the forest to the break, which leads into the geologically highly interesting cascade with several rappels. Almost all the belays are well secured chain anchors. The rock becomes increasingly brittle towards the bottom and practically everywhere there is a danger of falling rocks. After the first 45m rappel you come to a place that is very scenic. Here is a sloping ramp to the next belaystation which is located or. left. Here you will not find a belaystation anywhere and at the ramp you should not start sliding, because underneath there is the next drop. Here you have either the possibility to secure yourself with a body belay or you try to cross out directly at the arrival point of the 45m waterfall orographic left and get to the tree where you can hang a rope. At the 2nd 45m- rappel you think at first, someone meant it very well with the chain anchor. An approx. 2m-long chain with 4 express anchors stands there ready as an abseil point. On closer inspection of the rock, however, one understands why 4 express anchors were needed. The entire rock is extremely porous and one anchor has even broken off completely. Here it is advisable to check first whether one trusts the anchors. We have at least fixed the rope from the upper abseil point here, so that if it comes with the first to the breakout of the anchors at least about the abseil rope to the upper stand a backup exists. After another small walking passages you come to the last rappel (left), which can also be bypassed to the right via a small path made of steel steps. Then cross or. left out to the forest road.

Der Forststraße bergab folgen bis man zum Schild zum Fürstensteig kommt. Dann dem Fürstensteig, zuerst ein bisschen bergauf folgen bis man wieder zum Parkplatz gelangt.

Follow the forest road downhill until you reach the signs for the Fürstensteig. Then follow the Fürstensteig, first a little uphill until you get back to the parking lot.
