Von Carnia kommend fährt man auf der SS13 Richtung Tarvisio.
Ca. 1,5 km nach dem Hotel Carnia, bei einer Linkskurve (km 172) und nach dem braunen Schild "Moggio Udinese" findet man auf der rechten Seite eine Parkmöglichkeit beim Ausstieg der Schlucht.
. Man kann sich den Zustieg abkürzen indem mit einem zweiten Auto bis zum Stavoli Ravorade fährt. Mit dem zweiten Auto geht es wieder Richtung Carnia (Udine). Nach dem Verkehrsknoten bei Carnia fährt man über eine Brücke mit darunter liegenden Gleisen. Kurz danach sollte man li. Richtung Tugliezzo abbiegen, ist jedoch wegen der Sperrlinie nicht möglich also muss man re Richtung Carnia abbiegen. Am Ende der Straße rechts abbiegen und diese Straße links anhaltend folgen (führt unter der Bundesstraße SS13 durch) bei der Kreuzung fährt man gerade aus Richtung Tugliezzo. Eine Asphaltierte Straße windet sich neben dem riesigen Schotterfeld in Richtung der wenigen Häuser von Tugliezzo hinauf. Nach den Häusern auf der Hochebene führt die Straße abfallend mit starker re Kurve vorbei an einen Schranken und der Brücke die über den Rio Lavarie führt. Für den Rio Lavarie parkt man das Auto am besten nach der Brücke am li. Schotterplatz. Möchte man den re. Zufluss (Rio Barbar)des Lavarie gehen so sucht man etwas weiter oben kurz vor einer weiteren Brücke, wo sich ein großes Geröllfeld befindet (starke li. Kurve), eine Parkmöglichkeit.
Coming from Carnia, take the SS13 in the direction of Tarvisio.
About 1,5 km after the Hotel Carnia, at a left turn (km 172) and after the brown sign "Moggio Udinese" you will find on the right side a parking possibility at the exit of the canyon.
. You can shorten the access by taking a second car to Stavoli Ravorade. With the second car you go back towards Carnia (Udine). After the traffic junction at Carnia, cross a bridge with tracks underneath. Shortly after, you should turn left towards Tugliezzo, but this is not possible because of the barrier line, so you have to turn right towards Carnia. At the exit turn right and follow this road stopping on the left (goes under the SS13 road) at the crossroads go straight on towards Tugliezzo. An asphalted road winds up next to the huge gravel field towards the few houses of Tugliezzo. After the houses on the plateau, the road descends with a sharp bend to the right, passing a barrier and the bridge that crosses the Rio Lavarie. For the Rio Lavarie it is best to park the car after the bridge at the left gravel place. If you want to go the right tributary (Rio Barbar) of the Lavarie so you look a little further up just before another bridge, where there is a large boulder field (strong left bend), a parking possibility.

Am Bachbett angekommen kommt man nach kurzer Gehstrecke zur Ersten Stufe die li. Abgeklettert werden kann. Danach kommt in enger werdender Schlucht die 1. kurze Abseilstelle gefolgt von einer nicht einsehbaren ca. 35m hohen Abseilstelle die am besten über ein abziehbares Geländerseil li erreicht wird. Nach dieser Abseilstelle beginnt der meist eingeschnittene Teil der Schlucht. Kleine Windungen, Stufen und ein 5m Abseiler kommen in diesen Abschnitt vor. Am Schluss der 100m Engstelle öffnet sich die Schlucht wieder kurz. Man kommt zu einer 5m Stufe die gerutscht oder abgeseilt werden kann. Hier trifft man auch auf den re. Zufluss Rio Barbar. Weiter geht’s mit Abseilen im Wasserstrahl, zuerst 15m li, dann ca. 10m re. Danach hat man mehrere Möglichkeiten sich abzuseilen. Bei starker Wasserführung sollte man ein Geländerseil über die Rinne zum versteckten Bohrhaken auf der li Seite spannen, um sich dann außerhalb der Wasserführung ca. 30m bis zum unteren Kettenstand re. abzuseilen. Vom Kettenstand geht es ohne Sichtkontakt, entweder 25m zum re Zwischenstand oder gut 40m bis zu einen Stand li. mit Geländerseil (! das Geländerseil wird samt Bohrhaken oft durch das Wasser zerstört). Der Schlußabseiler li hat ca. 30m oder re vom Zwischenstand ca.40m. Nach dem Schlußwasserfall geht man ein kurzes Stück das Bachbett entlang bis zu einer großen Felsstufe die man re abklettert. Nach der 1. Brücke endet die Tour auf ca. 270Hm.
Arrived at the streambed, after a short walking passages you come to the first step that can be downclimbed on the left. After that, in a narrowing canyon, comes the 1st short rappel point followed by a not visible about 35m high rappel point which is best reached via a removable traverese rope left. After this rappel point, the mostly incised part of the canyon begins. Small twists, steps and a 5m rappel occur in this part. At the end of the 100m narrow section, the canyon opens again briefly. You come to a 5m step that can be rappelled or slid. Here you also meet the right tributary Rio Barbar. Continue with rappel in the water stream, first 15m left, then about 10m right. After that you have several possibilities to rappel. In case of strong water flow you should stretch a traverese rope across the chute to the hidden piton on the left side, then rappel outside the water flow for about 30m to the lower chain anchor on the right. From the chain anchor it goes without visual contact, either 25m to the right intermediate belaystation or a good 40m to a belaystation on the left with a traverese rope (! the traverese rope together with the bolthook is often destroyed by the water). The final rappel on the left has about 30m or on the right from the intermediate belaystation about 40m. After the final waterfall you walk a short distance along the streambed to a large rock step which you climb down on the right. After the 1st bridge the tour ends at about 270Hm.

Haben auch den oberen Teil begangen und dort ein paar Haken renoviert. Kennen die Schlucht sehr gut, deswegen sind wir bei dem Wasserstand rein. Ist aber nur für Personen empfehlenswert mit einiges an Erfahrung bei dem Wasser.
We also climbed the upper part and renovated a few anchors there. We know the canyon very well, so we went in at the water level. However, it is only recommended for people with some experience in the water.

Sind beim SOS8 nicht zur Kette rüber sondern von den 2 klebehaken direkt durch das Wasser runter (ca 20m) ist wesentlich empfehlenswerter.
Man kommt in einen Pool und dort seilt man sich weitere 10m ab. Diesen 10m Abseiler haben wir mit einem Ring erneuert, weil der andere Haken schon locker war.
Alles andere ist super eingerichtet
If you didn't go over to the chain on the SOS8, but went straight down through the water from the 2 glued anchors (approx. 20m), it's much more advisable.
You come to a pool and there you rappel another 10m. We renewed this 10m rappel with a ring because the other anchor was already loose.
Everything else is superiore set up

Mal was ganz anderes aber sehr nett wenn man die Tour kennt
Die Tour wurden in letzter Zeit von Locals zusätzlich neu eingebohrt. Speziell den letzten Teil kann man komplett im Wasserverlauf durchgehen wenn man will.
Mir hat es gefallen und ich hoffe das ich mir das bald mal bei Tageslicht ansehen kann

Wie immer in Friaul alle 8 Absicherungen super schön, Wasser bisschen mehr als sonst und teils super rutschig in den Kaskaden, aber dieses Jahr auch keine tote Gams irgendwo also safe to drink unten, und der Parkplatz samt Radweg sind unten komplett neu angelegt.
As always in Friuli, all 8 belays super nice, water a bit more than usual and sometimes super slippery in the cascades, but this year also no dead chamois anywhere so safe to drink down, and the parking lot and bike path are completely new at the bottom.

Stunning rock in the constriction. Fun little jumps. The main abseil at the end is the most aquatic element, so check from the bottom for sure - you'll be in the main flow unless you have very very sticky/grippy shoes!
