Die Taugl ist eine der ältesten und längsten Schluchten Österreichs die früher zum Teil mit dem Kajak befahren wurde; nach der ersten Engklamm folgt eine schöne aber auch sehr lange Bachwanderung bis zur Römerbrücke(Straße 10km,Klamm ca.7km)ca. 10Km² großes Einzugsgebiet. Tipp: Die meisten Canyonauten machen nur die erste sehr kurze (ca.30min) schöne Engklamm (Kamera nicht vergessen!) Wird nur die Engklamm begangen ist kein Schuttelauto notwendig. Unbedingt Wetter und Wasserstand beachten; im Frühjahr und nach Regen meist zu viel Wasser; schönste Sonneneinstrahlung am Vormittag (ca. 10-11Uhr).

Von Hallein Richtung Bad Vigaun, dann weiter Richtung St.Koloman. Möchte man eine der zwei langen Varianten (ganze Taugl oder Einstieg über Gmainbach) gehen braucht man ein Überstellungsfahrzeug bei der Römerbrücke. Dafür biegt man ca. 2km nach dem Ort Bad Vigaun links beim Schild Kuchl 5km (Römerbrücke) ab und parkt direkt bei der Brücke (untere Ausstiegstelle). Mit dem zweiten Auto fährt man zurück zur Bundesstraße und wieder Richtung St.Koloman hoch. Nach der Bushaltestelle links Richtung Trattberg (Gasthaus ”Sommerau”) abbiegen. Für Variante 2 (Einstieg über Gmainbach Zufluss) wäre nach dem Gasthof Sommerau rechts bei der Eisstockbahn eine Parkmöglichkeit. Für Variante 1 (ganze Taugl oder kurze Engklamm) fährt man aber weiter über die kleine Brücke und danach links. Man folgt der Taugelbodenstraße ca.3,9km in Richtung Tauglboden. Ca. 600m vor dem großen Schotter Parkplatz steht eine gelbe Wandertafel auf der rechten Straßenseite mit deutlichen Weg in die Tauglstrubklamm. Entweder gleich nach der Wandertafel bei der Ausweiche auf der rechten Seite (Platz für 1-2 PKW) oder am großen Schotterparkplatz danach parken.

From Hallein in the direction of Bad Vigaun, then continue in the direction of St. Koloman. If you want to go one of the two long variants (whole Taugl or entry via Gmainbach) you need a shuttle car at the Römerbrücke. To do this, turn left about 2km after Bad Vigaun at the sign Kuchl 5km (Römerbrücke) and park directly at the bridge (lower exit point). With the second car you drive back to the main road and up again towards St.Koloman. After the bus stop turn left towards Trattberg (Gasthaus "Sommerau"). For variant 2 (entry via Gmainbach tributary) would be after the inn Sommerau right at the curling rink a parking possibility. For variant 1 (whole Taugl or short gorge), however, continue over the small bridge and then turn left. Follow the Taugelbodenstraße for about 3.9km in the direction of Tauglboden. About 600m before the large gravel parking lot is a yellow hiking sign on the right side of the road with a clear path to the Tauglstrubklamm. Either park immediately after the hiking sign at the turnout on the right side (space for 1-2 cars) or at the large gravel parking place afterwards.

Variante 1: Direkt gegenüber der gelben Wandertafel in die "Taugelstrubklamm" bis zur Engklamm absteigen (Baumschlinge oder Haken vor Wasserfall) Variante 2: bei der Eisstockbahn direkt in den Gmainbach einsteigen (! Für diese Variante sind 2x50m Seile für den letzten ca.40m Wasserfall der in die Taugl mündet notwendig)

Variant 1: Directly opposite the yellow hiking sign, descend into the "Taugelstrubklamm" to the gorge (tree loop or anchor in front of the waterfall) Variant 2: At the curling rink, enter directly into the Gmainbach (! For this variant, 2x50m of ropes are necessary for the last approx.40m waterfall that flows into the Taugl).

Bei Variante 1 geht es vom Tauglboden über einen kurzen Pfad zu der lohnenswerten Engklamm. Hier kann man sich entweder außerhalb vom Wasser über eine Baumschlinge neben der Engstelle ca.20m abseilen oder im Wasser vom Haken direkt beim Wasserfall --> danach wird kein Seil mehr benötigt--> es folgt ein sehr schöner kurzer eingeschnittener Schluchtenabschnitt mit glattpolierten Kalkgestein (zum Teil rosa/rötliche Farbe) und kleinen Sprung/Rutschmöglichkeiten zum Teil mit Fixseil . Kurz nach der Engstelle öffnet sich die Schlucht. Hier hat man li. eine Ausstiegsmöglichkeit um in wenigen Minuten wieder retour zum Parkplatz zu gelangen. Achtung: Nach der nächsten Stufe ist eine Umkehr bzw. Ausstieg nicht mehr leicht möglich. Es folgt eine lange (ca.4h) Bachwanderung bis zur Römerbrücke wo nach der Pegelmessstelle noch ein Wasserfall kommt (umgehbar) bevor man li. unterhalb der Römerbrücke aus dem Bach aussteigt. Bei der Variante 2 hat man anfangs mehrere kleine Abseiler (5-10m) unterbrochen von Gehstrecken im Schichtgestein bis man am Schluss auf den 40m hohen Gmainbach Wasserfall trifft der in die Taugl mündet (kein Bohrhaken! nur Baumschlingen) -->danach folgt eine lange (ca.4h) Bachwanderung bis zur Römerbrücke.

Variant 1 is a short path from Tauglboden to the worthwhile gorge Engklamm. Here you can either rappel outside the water over a tree loop next to the narrows ca.20m or in the water from the anchor directly at the waterfall --> then no more rope is needed--> it follows a very nice short cut gorge section with smoothly polished limestone (partly pink / reddish color) and small jump / slides partly with fixed ropes . Shortly after the narrow section, the canyon opens. Here you have a left exit possibility to get back to the parking lot in a few minutes. Attention: After the next step it is no longer easy to turn back or exit. A long (approx. 4h) river walk follows to the Römerbrücke bridge, where after the water level measuring point there is another waterfall (can be bypassed) before you get out of the river on the left below the Römerbrücke bridge. Variant 2 has several small rappel (5-10m) interrupted by walking passages in the bedrock until you finally meet the 40m high Gmainbach waterfall which flows into the Taugl (no pitons! only tree slings) -->thereafter follows a long (ca.4h) river walk to the Römerbrücke.

Bei kurzer Taugl Variante ist der Ausstieg gleich nach der Engklamm. Hier li. in kürze über Waldpfad hoch zum Parkplatz. Bei den langen Varianten ist der Ausstieg direkt unter der Römerbrücke . Hier gleich li. steil zum Parkplatz hoch --> dann Schutteln vom unteren Parkplatz zum Tauglboden oder Gh.Sommerau am Gmainbach.

At short Taugl variant is the exit just after the gorge. Here left in a short time via forest path up to the parking lot. With the long variants is the exit directly under the Roman bridge. Here immediately left steeply up to the parking lot --> then Schutteln from the lower parking lot to Tauglboden or Gh.Sommerau at the Gmainbach.
