Von Chiavenna auf der SS 36 südwärts Richtung Lecco. Nach etwa 6km haben wir eben die Ortschaft San Cassiano durchfahren und biegen am Ortsende rechts ab auf die SP 19 Richtung Samolaco. Wir fahren in westlicher Richtung, überqueren den Fiume Mera, halten nach der Brücke geradeaus in den Ortsteil San Pietro (der Gemeinde Samolaco) hinein und erreichen über die Via Tonnaia die Straßenbrücke über den Torrente Mengasca. Hier, wo man auch den Wasserdurchsatz kontrollieren kann, das untere Fahrzeug abstellen.\nMit dem zweiten Auto fahren wir in südlicher Richtung am Berghang hoch, der Wegweisung Monastero folgend. Nach etwa 1,5 km endet die Teerstraße (410m üNN)und wir stellen hier das zweite Auto in der Nähe der Kapelle an geeigneter Stelle ab.
From Chiavenna, head south on the SS 36 towards Lecco. After about 6 km we have just passed the village of San Cassiano and turn right at the end of the village onto the SP 19 towards Samolaco. We head west, cross the Fiume Mera, keep straight on after the bridge into the district of San Pietro (in the municipality of Samolaco) and reach the road bridge over the Torrente Mengasca via Via Tonnaia. Here, where you can also check the water flow, park the lower vehicle.\nWith the second car, head south up the mountainside, following the signs for Monastero. After about 1.5 km, the tarred road exits (410 m above sea level) and we park the second car in a suitable place near the chapel.

Wir folgen nun zu Fuß dem Weg zu den Berghütten von Motto dei Damini. Dieser zieht zunächst in Richting NNW, schwenkt dann nach SW, um schließlich auf das Tal das Mengasca zuzulaufen.
Von den Alphütten Motto dei Damini (670m üNN) weiter der Wegspur folgen, leicht ansteigend in Richtung SSW (Leitung aus schwarzem Kuststoffrohr im Boden) bis zum nächsten Bacheinschnitt. 20m weiter - Pfad nunmehr auf der Hangkante - rechts hinunter, immer den roten Markierungspunkten folgend bis in's Bachbett.
Hat man kein zweites Fahrzeug für diese Umsetzung zur Verfügung, kann man auch am orograf. rechten Hang des Mengasca aufsteigen. Der anfängliche Pfad verliert sich im Wald und wir ziehen weglos hinauf, bis wir auf den Weg zur Alpe Motto dei Damini stoßen. Hier rechts und dann wie vorstehend beschrieben (Zustieg von unten ca. 2 Std.)
We now follow the path on foot to the mountain huts of Motto dei Damini. This initially heads NNW, then turns SW and finally heads towards the Mengasca valley.
From the Motto dei Damini mountain huts (670m a.s.l.), continue along the trail, climbing slightly to the SSW (black plastic pipe in the ground) until you reach the next stream cut. 20m further on - path now on the edge of the slope - down to the right, always following the red markings into the streambed.
If you do not have a second vehicle available for this conversion, you can also climb up the orographic right-hand slope of the Mengasca. The initial path loses itself in the forest and we ascend without a path until we reach the path to Alpe Motto dei Damini. Turn right here and continue as described above (access from below approx. 2 hours).

Un canyon sous côté, des belles sections. L’équipement RAS, les cordes fixes d’aide vers le grand rappel commencent à fatiguer. On a resserré les maillons et qq goujons. Le plus dur c’est de trouver l’approche :-D heureusement j’ai retrouvé mon commentaire de 2019 avec la description exacte - toujours d’actualité. Après le petit “hameau” motto del Damini, on remonte la pente après avoir dépassé les maisons (ruines). On monte la pente dans les fougères pour retrouver une sente une dixaine de mètres plus haut qui suit un tuyau noir. On suit le tuyau et juste avant son captage (gros bidon bleu) - a peu près 20m avant - on peut desescalader soit poser une corde autour d’un arbre (6-7m - point GPS: 46.25148N 9.36626E) on traverse à flanc un peu à gauche et on retrouve les points rouges. J’ai tracé cette partie en gps si besoin! Et sinon pour la suite regardez mon commentaire de 2019 ????.

Der Canyon Mengasca beginnt trotz Umparken mit einem sehr anspruchsvollen Zustieg. Vom Parkplatz bis zum Abzweig nach Motto dei Damini geht es stetig auf einem sehr guten Wanderweg bergauf, gefolgt von einem guten Pfad ohne nennenswerten Höhenunterschied. Von Motto dei Damini hat man einen schönen Blick in Richtung Tal, der Weg ist ab hier leicht zu übersehen aber regelmäßig durch rote Punkte markiert. Es geht teils steil herunter - der Weg ist anspruchsvoll und die Verwendung der Canyoning-Seile bietet sich an mindestens einer Stelle an.
Nach 1 bis 1 1/2 Stunden erreicht man den Einstieg. Der Canyon ist sehr schön und macht richtig Spaß, hat aber auch mehrere technisch sehr anspruchsvolle Schlüsselpunkte. Der Höhepunkt ist der 55 Meter hohe Wasserfall.

The Mengasca canyon begins with a very challenging access, despite the parking lot. From the parking lot to the junction to Motto dei Damini, the trail climbs steadily uphill on a very good hiking trail, followed by a good path with no significant difference in altitude. From Motto dei Damini you have a beautiful view towards the valley, the path is easy to miss from here but is regularly marked with red dots. The descent is steep in places - the path is challenging and the use of canyoning ropes is recommended in at least one place.
After 1 to 1 1/2 hours you reach the entry point. The canyon is very beautiful and great fun, but also has several technically demanding key points. The highlight is the 55 meter high waterfall.
