Auf der A10 beim Knoten Spital abfahren in Richtung Lienz auf der B100. Der B100 für 34km folgen (ca 30 min) bis man nach Berg an der Drau kommt. Beim Bahnhof Berg biegt man links ab direkt über die Brücke, die über die Drau führt. Hier bleibt man auf der Straße für ca 2,5km bis man zur Radlerstation „Sandhof kommt“. Hier fährt man noch ca für 150m weiter auf der Straße, überquert dabei den Bach der Ochsenschlucht (Feistritz), ehe links – direkt nach dem Bach – der Parkplatz auftaucht (Picknickplatz). Hier kann man die Fahrzeuge mit den trockenen Sachen parken. Generell sollte der Parkplatz genutzt werden um die Mehrzahl der Autos dort abzustellen. Am oberen Parkplatz ist die Parkplatzanzahl limitiert (2 PKW). Am unteren Parkplatz kann dann schon das Equipment vorbereitet werden. Auch der Neoprenanzug kann bereits hier angezogen werden (Zustieg vom oberen Parkplatz ca 15min auf Forststraße). WICHTIG: Bevor die Schlucht begangen wird muss um Erlaubnis gefragt werden (Am besten am Vortag). Hierfür bei Mario Duller von Ares Canyoning anrufen (+43 676 844425280; office@bikeschule.at). Mario hat die Schlucht gepachtet und kennt den Bauern über dessen Grund die private Zufahrtsstraße geht! Wasserkontrolle: Direkt beim Sandhof führt rechts die Straße bergauf. Nach ca 500m führt rechts eine Schotterstraße bergabwärts, die durch einen großen Baumstamm versperrt ist. Hier aussteigen und bis zur Wehranlage des Baches gehen für die Wasserkontrolle. Es bringt nichts unteren Parkplatz am Bach die Kontrolle durchzuführen, weil bei der Wehranlage das Wasser abgeleitet wird! Ein Referenzfoto des Wasserstandes unserer Begehung findet man weiter unten, hierbei handelt es sich um den „Normalwasserstand“, der aber schon bei der einen oder anderen Stelle fordernd werden kann. Alternativ kann man beim unteren Parkplatz für ca. 15 min in Richtung Schlucht wandern, eher man auch bei der Wehranlage ist und gemäß der Referenzfotos das Wasser kontrollieren kann. Anfahrt rechter Zulauf (rote Tour auf Topo) Ist der Wasserstand ok, fährt man die Straße für ca 3,5km bergaufwärts. Nach einigen Serpentinen im Wald kommt man bei einer Alm raus wo man sich noch rechts hält. Man fährt nochmal kurz in den Wald ehe man dann wieder bei der Alm rauskommt und man direkt am Bauernhof und einem Rotwildgehege vorbei fährt. Die asphaltierte Straße geht über in einen Schotterweg, der weiter hangaufwärts führt. Man fährt wieder in den Wald, bei Abbiegungen hält man sich rechts, eher man nach 2000m zu einem Schranken kommt. Man sollte vor dem Schranken irgendwo parken, da danach die Bundesforste anfangen und die Straße nicht befahren werden darf.

On the A10 exit at the Spital junction in the direction of Lienz on the B100. Follow the B100 for 34km (approx. 30 min) until you reach Berg an der Drau. At the train station Berg turn left directly over the bridge, which leads over the Drau. Here you stay on the road for about 2,5km until you reach the cycling station "Sandhof". Here you continue on the road for about 150m, crossing the stream of the Ochsenschlucht (Feistritz), before on the left - directly after the stream - the parking lot appears (picnic area). Here you can park the vehicles with the dry things. In general, the parking lot should be used to park the majority of cars there. At the upper parking lot the number of parking spaces is limited (2 cars). At the lower parking lot the equipment can already be prepared. Also the wetsuit can be put on already here (access from the upper parking lot about 15min on forest road). IMPORTANT: Before entering the canyons you have to ask for permission (best the day before). For this call Mario Duller from Ares Canyoning (+43 676 844425280; office@bikeschule.at). Mario has leased the canyon and knows the farmer over whose land the private access road goes! Water control: Directly at the Sandhof, the road leads uphill to the right. After about 500m a gravel road leads downhill to the right, which is blocked by a large tree trunk. Get off here and walk to the weir of the stream for the water control. It is useless to check the water level at the lower parking lot of the stream, because the water is diverted at the weir! A reference photo of the water level of our walk can be found below, this is the "normal water level", which can be challenging at one or the other point. Alternatively, you can hike at the lower parking lot for about 15 min in the direction of the canyon, rather you are also at the weir and can control the water according to the reference photos. Approach right inlet (red tour on topographic view) If the water level is ok, one drives the road for approx. 3.5km uphill. After some serpentines in the forest you come out at an alp where you still keep right. You drive again briefly in the forest before you come out again at the mountain pasture and you drive directly past the farm and a red deer enclosure. The asphalt road turns into a gravel road that leads further up the slope. You drive again into the forest, at turnings you keep to the right, rather you come after 2000m to a barrier. You should park somewhere before the barrier, because after it the federal forests begin and the road may not be driven on.

Zustieg rechter Zulauf (rote Tour auf Topo): 30min Man folgt der Forststraße für ca. 30 min ehe die Straße direkt über den rechten Zulauf führt. Achtung es gibt ca 5min vor dem Einstieg noch einen großen Zulauf (der aber unter der Forststraße hindurch geleitet wird). Das ist noch nicht der Einstieg sondern dieser kommt erst 5min später. Zustieg linker Zulauf (blaue Tour auf Topo): 1,5h Wer sich das Überstellen der Fahrzeuge und sich die langen Gehpassagen des rechten Zuflusses ersparen will kann den sehr angenehmen Zustieg zum linken Zulaufs wählen. Um zum linken Zulauf zu kommen geht man direkt beim unterem Parkplatz or. links den Wanderweg/Forststraße 233 hangaufwärts. Leider ist die Forststraße nicht befahrbar, da dies verboten ist (ansonsten könnte man direkt bis zum Einstieg fahren). Man bleibt immer auf dem Weg 233 (Nicht der Forststraße beim Schranken rechts folgen, sondern neben dem Schranken vorbei links am Weg 233 bleiben) ehe auf ca 1100 Hm ein großer Plattenabbruch kommt. Danach geht man noch ca 900m leicht bergauf ehe bei 1150Hm ein Schotterfeld in Richtung Schlucht führt. Der Zustieg über das Schotterfeld zur Schlucht ist relativ leicht erkennbar, da dies die erste Möglichkeit ist, wie man in die Schlucht einsteigen kann. Übersichtskarte siehe Topo. Es empfiehlt sich noch vor dem Einstieg in das Schotterfeld die Canyoningausrüstung anzuziehen. Das Schotterfeld klettert man ab ehe man im Bachbett des linken Zulaufs ankommt.

Access right inlet (red tour on topographic view): 30min Follow the forest road for about 30 min before the road leads directly over the right inlet. Attention, there is about 5min before the entry still a large inflow (which is led under the forest road). This is not yet the entry but this comes only 5min later. Access to the left inlet (blue tour on topographic view): 1.5h If you don't want to transfer the vehicles and the long walking passages of the right tributary, you can choose the very pleasant access to the left tributary. To get to the left tributary, go directly from the lower parking lot or left uphill along the hiking trail/forest road 233. Unfortunately, the forest road is not passable, because it is forbidden (otherwise you could go directly to the entry). Stay on the path 233 (do not follow the forest road to the right at the barrier, but stay on the left side of the path 233 next to the barrier) before you reach a large slab at about 1100m. Then you go about 900m slightly uphill before at 1150Hm a gravel field leads towards the canyons. The access over the gravel field to the canyon is relatively easy to recognize, as this is the first way to enter the canyon. See topographic view for overview map. It is recommended to put on the canyoning equipment before the entry into the gravel field. Climb down the gravel field before arriving at the streambed of the left tributary.

Tourenbeschreibung rechter Zulauf bis Zusammenfluss: ca. 1,75h Der rechte Zulauf ist charakterisiert durch eine sehr schön offene Wanderschlucht mit ein paar Abseilern drinnen, die aber keine Schwierigkeit darstellen. Es kommen einige Zuläufe in den rechten Zulauf der Ochsenschlucht. Der rechte Zulauf besteht aus relativ langen Geh- und Abkletterpassagen, ist aber auf Grund der schönen Landschaft und des klaren Wassers, das sukzessive immer mehr wird durchaus schön. Erst in den letzten 500m des rechten Zuflusses, bevor der linke Zufluss dazukommt schneidet sich die Schlucht immer enger ein. Tourenbeschreibung linker Zulauf bis Zusammenfluss: ca 0,5h Wer sich die langen Gehstrecken in dem offenen Gelände des rechten Zulaufs ersparen will und gleich beim ersten interessanten Teil des oberen Teils der Ochsenschlucht ankommen will, sollte den linken Zulauf wählen. Der linke Zulauf wurde im Mai 2020 von uns erstbegangen und eingebohrt. Der linke Zulauf beginnt mit einem kurze Abseiler von einem Baum, der auch or. rechts durch den Wald umgangen werden kann. Dann hat man ca nur 400m Geh- und Wanderstrecke vor sich, ehe sich die Schlucht merkbar einschneidet und man zu einer kleinen Kaskade kommt. Die ersten 3 m können noch abgeklettert oder vorsichtig gerutscht werden, ehe man or rechts zu einem Bohrhaken kommt. Man seilt sich in den 2. Gumpen und kann die letzte 3m-Stufe rutschen. Dann kommt auch schon der rechte Zulauf dazu und man steht direkt vor der interessanten ersten Stelle des oberen Zulaufs. Tourenbeschreibung ab Zusammenfluss bis Begin unterer Teil: ca 1,5h Der Zusammenfluss zwischen rechten und linkem Zufluss stellt die erste sehr schöne, aber wassertechnisch anspruchsvolle Stelle dar. Durch den Zusammenfluss verdoppelt auf einmal die Wassermenge und man muss in einen tieferen, turbulenten Gumpen und den Abseiler or. li. Aufzubauen. Der Abseiler führt durch einen turbulenten Gumpen eher man direkt im Wasser abseilen muss. Es empfiehlt sich bei dieser Stelle einen geschlossenen Kreis aufzubauen, weil der Wasserdruck durchaus hoch ist. Gleich danach folgt eine weitere Kaskade, die bei einem Kettenstand or. rechts beginnt. Danach muss man den Bach mit durchaus starker Strömung queren, ehe sich or. links beim Felsband ein Bohrhaken befindet. Nach diesen 2 Highlights folgt eine relativ lange Geh- Wander- und teilweise Schwimmpassage in einer Schlucht mit eindrucksvoller Geologie. Je weiter man die Ochsenschlucht hinunter geht, desto mehr Quellen und Zuflüsse münden in die Ochsenschlucht, die sie im unteren Teil zu dem aquatischen Canyon macht. Deswegen sind auch gewisse Stellen im oberen Teil der Schlucht nicht zu unterschätzen (Prallwand, Strömungen). Im Vergleich zum unteren Teil ist jedoch die Wasserproblematik überschaubar. Gegen Ende des oberen Teils der Schlucht verengt sie sich erneut und man muss sich teilweise in turbulentere Gumpen abseilen bzw. diese durchqueren. Bei Hm 850 kommt or. rechts ein Geröllfeld in die Schlucht. Sollte es bis dahin schon Probleme mit dem Wasser gegeben haben, sollte man hier aussteigen. Da man im unteren Teil praktisch keine Fluchtmöglichkeiten mehr hat und teilweise Dieses Geröllfeld markiert gleichzeitig auch den Beginn des unteren Teils der Ochsenschlucht (siehe separate Beschreibung). Natürlich ist der untere Teil der Ochsenschlucht sicher Canyoning-technisch das Highlight. Wenn man jedoch die Ochsenschlucht macht, sollte man den oberen Teil auch dazu machen. Es sind zwar durchaus längere Geh- und Abkletterpassagen, aber geologisch und landschaftlich lohnt sich der obere Teil auf alle Fälle. Vor allem die Stelle beim Zusammenfluss des linken und rechten Zuflusses ist sehr schön und auch Canyoning-technisch anspruchsvoll.

Tour description right inflow to confluence: approx. 1.75h The right tributary is characterized by a very nice open canyon with a few rappels inside, which are not difficult. There are several tributaries in the right tributary of the Ochsenschlucht. The right inlet consists of relatively long walking and downclimbing passages, but is quite beautiful due to the beautiful scenic and the clear water, which gradually becomes more and more. Then comes the right inflow to it and one stands directly before the interesting first place of the upper inflow. Tour description from the confluence to the beginning of the lower part: approx. 1,5h The confluence of the right and left tributaries is the first very beautiful, but technically demanding place. Due to the confluence the water volume doubles at once and one has to get into a deeper, turbulent pool and rappel ortographic left. The rappel leads through a turbulent pool, rather you have to rappel directly in the water. It is advisable to set up a closed circuit at this point, because the water pressure is quite high. Immediately after, another cascade follows, which begins at a chain anchor or. right. After that you have to cross the stream with quite strong current before you find a bolthook or. left at the rocky ledge. After these 2 highlights follows a relatively long walking, hiking and partly swimming passages in a canyon with impressive geology. The further you go down the Ochsenschlucht, the more springs and tributaries flow into the Ochsenschlucht, which makes it an aquatic canyon in the lower part. Therefore, certain places in the upper part of the canyon are not to be underestimated (baffle wall, currents). However, compared to the lower part, the water problems are manageable. Towards the exit of the upper part of the canyon, it narrows again and you have to rappel into more turbulent pools or cross them. At altitude 850 m, a boulder field enters the canyon on the right. If there have already been problems with the water until then, you should get out here. This boulder field also marks the beginning of the lower part of the Ochsenschlucht (see separate description). Of course, the lower part of the Ochsenschlucht is certainly the highlight in terms of canyoning. However, if you do the Ochsenschlucht, you should do the upper part as well. There are indeed longer walking and downclimb passages, but geologically and scenically the upper part is definitely worth it. Especially the place at the confluence of the left and right tributaries is very beautiful and also technically challenging canyoning.

(zu Fuß: 45min.) Wer den unteren Teil der Schlucht nicht begehen will muss bei 850 Hm or. rechts. zuerst das Geröllfeld hoch ehe man nach ca 15 - 20 min bei der Forststraße rauskommt. Hat man hier kein Auto geparkt so geht man sicher 45min – 1h bis zum unteren Parkplatz oder 30min bis 45min ehe man zur Schranke kommt wo die Autos für den oberen Teil abgestellt werden müssen

approx. 15min (if car was parked at the entry of the lower part). If you don't want to go to the lower part of the canyon you have to walk up the boulder field at 850m or. right. before you come out after 15 - 20min at the forest road. If you have not parked a car here so you go safely 45min - 1h to the lower parking lot or 30min to 45min before you come to the barrier where the cars for the upper part must be parked.
