Wie zum Rio Lavarie: "Die von Villach nach Udine führende A 23 bei der Ausfahrt "Carnia" in Richtung Tolmezzo verlassen. Nach fast 1000 m und einem Kreisverkehr erreicht mann die SS 52, fährt diese aber dort nicht in Richtung Tolmezzo, sondern biegt nach rechts auf sie ab. Nordostwärts geht es ca. 3200 m, dann trifft man auf die SS 13. Diese fährt man nun in nordöstlicher Richtung (Chiusaforte, Tarvisio) noch etwa 2 km, bis sich rechterhand vor dem Taleinschnitt des Rio Lavarie die Möglichkeit eröffnet, die SS 13 zu verlassen und auf der alten Straßentrasse das untere Fahrzeug abzustellen. Mit dem zweiten Auto fährt man wieder zurück, vorbei an den Geschäften und dem Hotel in Richtung Udine. Man kommt umgehend zu den Häusern von Carnia. Hier im Ort wendet man das Auto, fährt wieder in nördlicher Richtung auf der SS 13, bis man rechts abbiegen kann (ein Linksabbiegen aus der ursprünglichen Fahrtrichtung ist an diese Stelle untersagt). Bei der nächsten T-Kreuzung biegt man rechts ab und fährt in Serpentinen hinauf nach Tugliezzo und dort geradeaus weiter. Die Straße macht eine Haarnadelkurve nach rechts und einige hundert Meter weiter quert man den Rio Lavarie. Kurz nach der Brücke links eine Parkmöglichkeit."

How to get to Rio Lavarie: "Leave the A23 from Villach to Udine at the "Carnia" exit in the direction of Tolmezzo. After almost 1000 m and a traffic circle you reach the SS 52, but do not take it there in the direction of Tolmezzo, but turn right onto it. The road continues northeast for about 3200 m until it meets the SS 13, which you follow in a northeasterly direction (Chiusaforte, Tarvisio) for about 2 km until, on the righthand side, before the Rio Lavarie valley, you have the opportunity to leave the SS 13 and park your lower car on the old road. With the second car you go back, past the stores and the hotel in the direction of Udine. You will immediately reach the houses of Carnia. Here, in the town, turn the car around and drive north again on the SS 13 until you can turn right (it is forbidden to turn left from the original direction at this point). At the next T-junction turn right and go up in serpentines to Tugliezzo and continue straight on. The road makes a hairpin bend to the right and a few hundred meters further you cross the Rio Lavarie. Shortly after the bridge, on the left, there is a parking area."

Zunächst wie beim Rio Lavarie: "Vom Auto auf der Straße zurück über die Brücke. Einige Meter weiter führt rechts eine Piste (am Beginn Schranke) in den lichten Wald hinein. Diese geht man und sie führt zum Bachbett genau an der Stelle, wo die Verengung beginnt." Hier queren wir den Rio Lavarie und klimmen am jenseitigen Ufer hoch. Wir stoßen hier auf die undeutlichen Reste der alten Straße und folgen ihr in östlicher Richtung. Wir queren zwei Rinnsale und folgen dem dritten hinunter zum Rio Barbar (Einstieg).

First, as for Rio Lavarie: "From the car on the road back over the bridge. A few meters further, on the right, a track (barrier at the beginning) leads into the sparse forest. Walk this and it leads to the streambed exactly where the constriction begins." Here we cross the Rio Lavarie and climb up the far bank. We come across the indistinct remains of the old road here and follow it in an easterly direction. We cross two rivulets and follow the third down to Rio Barbar (entry).

Nach dem Geröllfeld folgt man das meist trockene Bachbett für ca. 200m danach kommt man zu den ersten Gumpen die je nach Wassertiefe abgeklettert oder gerutscht werden können. Nach einer Abseilstelle vom Baum re ca. 5m folgt ein Abseiler 20m re in enger werdender Schlucht. Eine kurze Gehstrecke führt zu einem 3m Sprung und 2 weiteren Abseilstellen (1x10m li vom Baum und 1x15m re vom Fels). Danach kommen ein großer Klemmblock und eine kurze Gehstrecke mit 5m Rutsche. Auf den nächsten 5m Abseiler li folgt eine kleine Rutsche/Abkletterpassage von 3m die in einen großen Gumpen endet (Zusammentreffen mit Rio Lavarie).

After the boulder field, follow the mostly dry streambed for about 200m, then you come to the first pools that can be downclimbed or slid depending on the water depth. After a rappel from a tree on the right for about 5m, a rappel follows 20m to the right in a narrowing canyon. A short walking passages leads to a 3m jump and 2 more rappels (1x10m left from the tree and 1x15m right from the rock). After that comes a big clamping block and a short walking passages with 5m slide. On the next 5m rappel left follows a small rappel/downclimb of 3m which ends in a large pool (meeting with Rio Lavarie).
