Very short but intense and spectacular. The high waterfall has an intermediate stand in a direct line after about 50 meters. This is not optimally drilled in, the rope runs over a rough edge and jams heavily when pulling off. If there is a strong flow and / or wind, the intermediate abseil level is in the water. High water level due to the rainfall a few days ago.

With more water, the tour has certain charms. Be careful when it rains in the mountains, the water level can rise extremely. There are various escape routes, but not always. The bad weather of the previous week has completely washed through the canyon, all anchors are still OK, but it has removed some tree trunks and changed some passages.

Since the heavy rains at the exit of October, there has been a lot more garbage in the canyon. It's a shame that the locals are spoiling their beautiful island like this. We did a bit of sawing work in the canyon in the construction area. The anchors are all in place, but a few additional anchors would help to avoid strong rope friction.

After a few days of rain, this was a sporty but manageable water level. The high waves, which can be observed beautifully at the level of the final waterfall, were also impressive.
21.10.2024 Ribeira da Igreja (superior) Casa Vento Madeira ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Secco Completato ✔
The canyon is now fully equipped, in places there are still old anchors from the first ascent, these will be removed soon. Some abseiling points are still equipped with fixed ropes, all high waterfalls except for one C25 with titanium glued anchors.

I used the access today as a way back / exit from the Igreja Superior. There have been several heavy landslides and the path is currently only passable with a very high risk of falling. The path will probably be repaired soon, as it is being used to maintain a water pipe. However, this may well take several months. I must therefore strongly advise against walking on it.

With moderate rain, the water level has risen noticeably, the water has turned brown, the large catchment area is noticeable. A nice tour for beginners.

The approach can only really be found thanks to the fluttering tape. The ascent to the Jägerhäuserl is extremely steep and quite challenging, especially with a lot of ropes on your back. From the Häusl, you have to climb a good 60 to 80 meters in altitude. Ideally close to the edge. Then you will see a tree stump in the flank sloping down to the stream, which has a straight saw edge at the top. A little above it, you can descend towards the stream. We attached a 20-meter rope to a second tree stump, which is slightly above the first, to climb down to three smaller trees. From here we descended another 20 meters with a rope aid. About the equipment: In over 20 years of canyoning, I have never seen such an unprofessionally set up canyon. Almost all anchors are mounted extremely close to the ground, the rope then regularly walks over rough edges, making it extremely difficult to pull off. One abseil chain lay completely in the watercourse. The mixture of stainless steel plate and galvanized chain link quickly leads to corrosion. There is a razor-sharp edge at one abseiling point. (The 4th by our count). We had to set 6 new anchors to climb the tour safely. Given the amount of water, the tour was a lot of fun.

With the current amount of water (snowmelt in September) a great tour. The key point is the waterfall with the intermediate basin, where you can hardly avoid the falling water.

First ascent. That something like this still exists in 2024, a canyon visible from the road, short access and a few nice abseils in the forest. Born out of necessity (high water in all the other canyons nearby). Nice for half a day.

The path from the chapel to the entry point is very long and leads over a good 100 unnecessary meters in altitude, which you descend again. However, as the name suggests, it is very impressive. There is an alternative access from the other side of the Panorama Trail, which offers additional, direct access to the final waterfall. The two anchors in the upper part are top-notch (12 mm, stainless steel with two rings, single pitons), although a few exciting climbing sections remain. We have placed the following new anchors: After the first known V - chain anchor (orographic right) a chain anchor stainless steel after a good 18 m orographic left behind an edge (not visible from above). The first rappel is thus divided into C 18 and C 28 (according to our measurement). Pulling off was possible without any problems. The second belay consists of 2 glued anchors a few meters outside the waterfall, also on the left. The anchors stick out a little too far from the rock. The third belay is also located a few meters from the waterfall, a good five meters above a prominent rock edge. It consists of two bent stainless steel bolts with a galvanized screw chain link. The anchors are connected with a thin green cord. In addition, there is a flat bent glued anchor and an anchor that is 70% pulled out of the rock. Here we have placed two new single pitons (galvanized, 10 mm, with a ring). The fourth belay is a sporty 55 meters away, again well away from the watercourse. It consists of two glued anchors, which are also too far out of the rock, and a bolted bolt plate with two chain links; the washer is missing here. We redrilled the next, fifth and last belay, after a good 45 meters orographic left near the left watercourse in a niche. It consists of two single pegs (galvanized, 10 mm, with a ring). There are still 45 meters to the bottom. All information without guarantee, check anchors!

Water level increased after several days of (heavy) rain (snowfall from 1200 m). Full neoprene required! Anchor points are all okay, even if there is room for improvement in terms of rope friction. Unfortunately, the tour comes at the price of a much too long approach and an equally long return. You climb a good 300 vertical meters to the exit and logically also descend again afterwards. All the water actually seeps away in the wide gravel bed on the way back.

The first (single) anchors are already wobbly, the equipment is no longer up to date, a complete renovation would be appropriate. We entered after 5 days of moderate to heavy rain at a higher water level. Extremely short walking passages in the canyon and many small and three higher abseils. A little bit of wood but not disturbing. A worthwhile canyon at this water level.

Water level definitely too high, approx. 500 l/sec, estimated at the exit bridge. As there is virtually no information or pictures of this tour, we decided not to do a tour for safety reasons.

We descended the entire so-called canyon, which is actually a wide river bed with large boulders that form a waterfall here and there and dangerous syphons in other places. Overall, there are only a few abseiling points with little height, and there are hardly any technical challenges in the canyon. You have to be very careful due to the strong current. On a positive note, the rock is very nice and extremely grippy and the water is sparkling clean and a great color.
20.05.2024 Costalunga Casa Vento Madeira ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normale Completato ✔
A great water level due to the rainfall of the last week. Rule of thumb: If the water of the Costalunga doesn't completely disappear before the Torrente Mis, then you should take a look at the last step (10 minutes upstream). A beautiful canyon, bright white at the start, which narrows out nicely and presents some very nice abseils. Most of the equipment seemed to date back to the early days of canyoning, we added three new single anchors and redrilled a chain anchor. As a result, the former C34 can now be done in 2 steps, C6 and C30. This means that 30 ropes are sufficient. In the upper parts, the ideal rope length is 25 m.
06.05.2024 Val de Piero Casa Vento Madeira ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Alto Completato ✔
There are two options for access: Start as described, after approx. 30 minutes turn right at the fork in the path to the intermediate entrance. However, apart from the crystal-clear and sparkling clean water and the 35-metre waterfall, there is nothing to marvel at. If you continue up to the left at this fork, you will reach a tree with three clear notches after about 60 steep and sometimes extremely exposed minutes. An old ruin can be seen at the bottom right. We pass this on the far right and then head steeply downhill in an arc to the left. We downclimb the last 10 vertical meters to a paved path from a tree with the help of a rope. We follow the path in the direction of flow for a few hundred meters to the entry point. From here we found the following abseiling points and set new anchors in some places and renewed all the rope slings: Tree top left, 6 meters 1 anchor and hourglass on the left, 12 meters in the water (dangerous at high water levels) 1 anchor with ring top left, 4 meters Tree on the right, 35 meters Everything else was jumpable and slippable today. At another step we found the remains of two anchors. We had to walk long distances between the individual abseiling points. All in all, a canyon worth seeing with bright white limestone rock and probably the highest water quality in Italy.
24.05.2023 Val del Mus (inferiore) Casa Vento Madeira ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normale Completato ✔
I heard that I was in this canyon in May 2023. I also saw two brand new anchors on the ledge in the middle of the C 65. This means you can currently walk the Val de Mus with shorter ropes (I would recommend 45 meters). But beware, if the new bolts have disappeared again, only the old ones remain, which were actually very rusty (I was told).
16.04.2023 Ribeira das Furnas Casa Vento Madeira ★★★★★ 📖 ★★★ ★★★ 💧 Normale Completato ✔
The canyon is now fully equipped with U-shaped stainless steel glued anchors and chains at the high abseil points. There has been a landslide on the approach from below, but it is passable.
